• When Can I See My Loved One?

We understand how important it is to spend time with your loved one after their passing. At Fawcett and Hetherington, we do everything we can to make this possible as soon as it’s appropriate and respectful.

Before you can visit your loved one in our chapel of rest, a few essential steps must take place:
Transfer into our care: Once the necessary paperwork is completed—whether from a hospital, care home, or coroner—we will gently bring your loved one into our care at King George House in Eston.
Preparation and presentation: Our team will ensure your loved one is cared for with dignity. This may include washing, dressing, and, if requested, embalming. These steps help create a peaceful and comforting viewing experience.
Legal and medical clearance: If the death was unexpected or referred to the coroner, there may be a short delay while formalities are completed. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way.
Scheduling your visit: Once your loved one is ready, we’ll invite you to visit at a time that suits you. Our chapel of rest offers a quiet, private space for reflection and farewell.
A Personal Goodbye Whether you wish to sit quietly, speak to your loved one, or bring a small token or keepsake, we’ll support you with warmth and understanding. You’re welcome to change your mind at any time—there’s no right or wrong way to say goodbye.

If you’d like, we can help you prepare for the visit or answer any questions about what to expect. Just call us on 01642 459555—we’re here for you, day or night.

  • What types of funeral services do you offer?

We offer attended funerals, direct cremations, simplicity cremations, and private chapel services. Each option can be tailored to reflect your loved one’s wishes and your family’s needs.

  • How do I register a death?

You’ll need a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death from a doctor or hospital. Then, book an appointment at your local register office within five days. We can guide you through this process and help with any paperwork.

  • Can I personalise the funeral?

Absolutely. From music and readings to transport and floral tributes, we’ll help you create a service that honours your loved one’s life and values.

  • What if the death is referred to the coroner?

If the cause of death is unclear, the coroner may investigate. This can delay registration and funeral arrangements slightly, but we’ll liaise with the authorities and keep you informed throughout.

  • How much does a funeral cost?

Costs vary depending on the type of service and choices made. We offer clear, upfront pricing and can help you explore options that suit your budget. We also support pre-paid funeral plans and can advise on financial assistance if needed.

  • Do you offer support after the funeral?

Yes. We can connect you with local bereavement services and offer guidance on memorials, ashes, and ongoing care. You’re always welcome to reach out to us.
