Covid-19 Updates - updated 12/4/21 (Funeral Arrangements and Services)

Opening times 9.00am until 4.00pm Monday to Friday

During these difficult times we are working extremely hard to keep up to date with current guidance regarding the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19 virus.

Please be assured our family will, no matter what, continue to look after your family the best we possibly can.

As a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) we are provided with regular, up to date advice on how to keep ourselves, our families, our clients and local community safe. As you know, things are changing daily, if you have any concerns or queries please do not hesitate to get in touch us on 01642 459555

Please read the following information carefully.
We strongly recommend, where possible, you follow these guidelines.

Due to government guidelines all people who enter the premises are required to wear a face covering unless they have an existing medical condition which makes them exempt, we also have hand sanitiser at the door when you enter and a track and trace code on the door for you to scan.

Funeral Arrangements:
Where possible, arrangements are to be made over the telephone or via video calling. You will have to come into the office for a short time to sign some forms but this should not take longer than 10 minutes. If you are unable to do this over the telephone you are able to come into the office however this is limited to two people only.

Visiting a loved one at the Chapel of Rest:
If you do wish to visit a loved one, we ask you limit the number attending at any one time to those living in the same household or social bubble and limit the number of visits made to the Chapel of Rest, where possible.

Funeral Services:
Sadly, many of our local churches have closed their doors to funeral services however some are starting to reopen following guidance. Government guidance says only 30 people maximum are allowed at Services to avoid social gatherings to help reduce the risk of infection, please be aware this is reduced to 16 if the Service is held within our premises due to the size of our Service Chapel. According to the National association of funeral directors on Monday 12 April 2021, it is permited for up to 15 people to attend a funeral reception or wake in England, this will only apply to gatherings which take place at a COVID-secure outdoor hospitality venue, or other venue permitted to open for this purpose - such as a community centre or place of worship.

Please also think carefully about who will attend the funeral; We are currently providing a webcast service free of charge at our local Crematoriums in the hope that some people may find a small bit of solace in being able to follow their loved ones Service if they cannot attend the funeral.

We are now allowing use of our limousines however face coverings must be worn to protect yourselves and our drivers. Our limousines are restricted to 6 mourners from the same household or social bubble only.

Funeral Notices:
We kindly ask that you please refrain from publicly advertising funeral details to reduce the risk of other, well-meaning mourners arriving unexpectedly. If you would like any advice on how to word a notice to inform others of your bereavement, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Memorial Services:
When this crisis ends, we would love to able to assist you in arranging a celebration of life/memorial service for your loved one for all family and friends to attend. If this is something you think you would like to do, please let a member of the team or know so we can contact you again in the future or please bear this in mind and contact us when the time comes.

Please be patient with us, guidance is changing daily but we will keep you informed of any further developments. We are available 24/7 so please do not hesitate to contact us for advice. It is a truly challenging time for everyone, but if we all work together, we will get through this together.

Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.

Here at Fawcett and Hetherington we are proud to say we have been looking after families for 25 years

About Us

Established in 1993 by Alistair Fawcett and David “Pip” Hetherington when they opened our first office in South Bank. In 1995 another branch was opened in Normanby High Street.

In October 2010, we combined both offices and opened a purposely designed Funeral Home out of a former Public House on Eston High Street and named it King George House, this allowed us to concentrate our efforts on providing a personal and comforting service in times of need in one central building.

We have 7 chapels of rest, 2 which are specifically designed for disabled access

We also have a service chapel in which we can hold small Funeral Services and other activities. For example we have used the Service Chapel to hold a Naming Ceremony for Henry (our youngest addition to the Fawcett Family), a yoga class and an afternoon fundraising tea. If you would like to use this facility then please contact us.

We can cater for deaf people as one of our members of staff is qualified to sign language British signature level 2.

We are proud to be recognized in the 3 best rated funeral directors in Middlesbrough three best

We are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and abide by its Code of Practice. Our staff are also members of the British Institute of Funeral Directors and The British Institute of Embalmers . We also abide by their codes of practice.
